El Centro Cultural

Mission Statement of El Centro Cultural
El Centro Cultural is organized and operated: for the advancement and promotion of Latin American arts, artists and arts organizations as an integral part of the cultural life of Delaware and the nation; and to collaborate actively with arts, legal, social, and community agencies and organizations, through programs and projects designed to foster appreciation, empowerment and well being of Delaware’s Latin American community

Description of El Centro Cultural
El Centro Cultural, Inc. (“El Centro Cultural”) encourages cultural stability, artistic expression, promotion of the arts and leadership empowerment in the Sussex County Latino community.  Through artistic presentations, education, advocacy, promotion, outreach, and service, El Centro Cultural actively enhances the quality of life in Sussex County and engages our culturally diverse residents in artistic experiences as both participants and audiences.

History of El Centro Cultural
El Centro Cultural began with The Hispanic Traditional Arts Survey conducted in 1995 that discovered the need for more artistic, cultural and social programs in Sussex County.  As a result of this survey, local community members received funding from the Delaware Division of the Arts to start the Hispanic Cultural Conservation Initiative.  From this initiative, El Centro Cultural, Inc. was legally incorporated on December 2, 1996.
